7 year old

We had a great labor day weekend celebrating Rachel's 7th birthday. We started out with a few gifts (ecstatic about the Barbie Thumbelina doll)and then gave her some clues around the house as to what we were doing for the day.

Rachel's been wanting to go to the zoo for about a year now. I got discounted tickets through work and we saved about $20 on those. Yeehaw!

Sidenote: We decided to not have a birthday party with her little friends this year. Mean? I don't think so. I think the whole birthday party every year for your kids and their friends has gotten out of hand. I don't remember doing that ever as a kid. At the most, it was a sleepover and never once were gifts involved. There, I've said my peace. And, we did celebrate with family the next day. It's all good.

We took a ton of pictures but most of them are through fences which don't come out very well. We saw camels, zebras, elephants, monkeys, black bears just to name a few. The girls were able to feed goats, deer and llamas and they have a butterfly kingdom and a butterfly landed right on Rachel's head! The weather was perfect and it was just a great day.

There's also a little amusement park there too. Rachel did not want to go on the "little" train but of course Emma was thrilled. (: I think she went on that train at least 3 times.

We stopped for dinner on the way home.

Tired and exhausted when we got home but so worth it.

you mean mom! :) just kidding - going to the zoo is way funner than a party! i actually wanted to take sky somewhere fun instead of do a party this year, but because the place he would really want to go (legoland!) is PRICEY, i think maybe we'll just do a small party instead. but i'm still not sure...we'll see.
your girls are sooo cute! emma has such a mischievious look about her :) did rachel get a haircut?

yeah! it looks like a great day!! and no, you're a meanie:) just kidding. i think we pretty much gave up on parties. the boys have never had one(any of them) and rachel had 1 "friend party" when she turned 4. that's it. i agree that it is an occassional thing, and definitely not an every year thing. it's SO much better to do something as a family(immediate or extended). so don't worry, you're not a weirdo(well, i am one, so maybe it's not much of a consolation coming from me).

velvet-yes, Rachel got about 3 inches cut off which is making it much easier to tame. (:
You're spot on with Emma. She is game for anything which is fun at times and terrifying the rest of the time. (:

tenny-I am a weirdo too, that's why we're friends. (:
