Our family tradition of the balloons on a birthday. She was very excited to see that this morning.
Have you ever heard of wikki stix? These things are great, she just got these this morning and loves them. They'd be nice assets for teaching too, you can make shapes, letters, numbers, etc. with these and they're a bit sticky so you can put them up on a wall or chalkboard. She decided to make her own birthday cake.

wiki stix are so fun - there is a restaurant here that gives them out to the kids (instead of crayons/paper). i never thought about using them for teaching!
